Best Show In Town
Once a year I pack a tent
And cram into the car
Fill it up with food and gas
And travel not too far.
Up North to the Galilee
Where friends and music wait
Hoping there's still camping space
Not wanting to be late
And as the lake comes into view
My heart goes pidder padder
For now I know I am among
The throngs at Jacob's Ladder
For two full days I'll re-affirm
My faith in human kind
Hanging out under the trees
Just trying to unwind
I'll spread a blanket, leave my "Post"
And trollop off to dance
Think someone will touch my things?
Up here ? There's not a chance!
For nowhere can I dance the jig
With kids 'bout half my age
Or stay awake till half past three
Adrift from stage to stage
I'll get in touch with whom I am
And the culture from where I came
Through the bars of old old songs
Of each I know the name
My kids don't know I'm watching them
Or why I shed a tear
Or fathom the enormity
Of an event I hold so dear
So when the tents are folded
And the trash is thrown once more
I'll go and buy those earrings
The ones that I adore
Then pack the car and head down South
The traffic I will curse it
But what's a little waiting
When the weekend has been worth it!
